We’ve been rubbing shoulders with the great and the good of the region’s top food and drink producers this week and our handcrafted game pie has cut through the competition to win a coveted Taste Award.
Our game and poultry pie triumphed in the ‘Best Ready to Eat’ category at this year’s Taste Awards, run in association with Deliciouslyorkshire and the Yorkshire Post,
Celebrating the finest local food and drink in the region, the Awards, sponsored by ASDA, attracted more than 340 product entries across 24 categories from 70 Yorkshire businesses.
The winners were announced at a black tie dinner attended by 300 guests at the Pavilions of Harrogate on Wed 2 November and hosted by BBC Radio 2’s food critic Nigel Barden and Yorkshire Food Finder’s Sue Nelson.
Judged over 4 days on appearance, taste and texture by an expert panel of foodies, chefs, journalists, category buyers, retailers, producers and food bloggers, our game pie was applauded for its good distribution of jelly and nice contrast in meat and colours; its homemade, artisan appeal; it’s well packed meat and complementary sweet jelly. Great crunch and bite to the pastry, real comfort food – a pie that Yorkshire should be proud of!
Our Queen’s Pie, created to commemorate HM The Queen’s 90th birthday, was also shortlisted in the category.
Matthew Topping, sales director, The Topping Pie Company said: “We are delighted to pick up another award for our game pie, which is no stranger to accolades having been awarded many Great Taste Awards over the years.
“We are very proud of this pie and to be judged among such strong competition across the region is testament to its taste and consistent premium quality. Yorkshire really is the food and drink capital of the UK and we value the support of Deliciouslyorkshire to champion the region’s best products,” continued Matthew.
